You’ve certainly come across the saying, “Choose a job that you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. This begs the question can a hobby or passion project turn into a career?

Now more than ever, we have access to markets, people, and resources from across the globe at our finger tips. Leveraging this opportunity learn from people all over the world is a great advantage. There is an endless amount of inspiration available.

Starting a solo gig in the past often required a substantial amount of monetary resources. However, now people are able to hit the ground running on a fairly reasonable budget. A big example of this is creating a website, which used to require an experienced developer, designer and sometimes a whole team of people. Now thanks to website creation options are easy to customize such as WordPress and Squarespace you can get started with little experience.

Personal Marketing

An crucial aspect to making yourself seen your in your space is through promotion in order to sell your goods, services, and overall brand. More and more consumers are becoming strongly affiliated to certain brands according to their interactions with customers/users. Take this opportunity to set up social media accounts to promote your services. Consider signing up for a scheduling tool like Hootsuite or Buffer to stay active on social.

Changing Perceptions

Gone are the days where trust with businesses is directly related to size or experience. Consumers and users are making an effort to do business locally, and support up and coming businesses. As a solo-preneur or freelancer you are not at any disadvantage. Showcase your talents and projects and let them speak for themselves (with the help of your marketing of course).
